About Me

My photo
Florida, United States
June and I retired in June, 2004 and travelled for a year on our boat from Lake Michigan to Florida, then North on the East Coast through Canada, back to Southern Lake Michigan. It was the most amazing trip we have ever taken and one that will be tough to beat. We settled in Florida in the fall of 2005. On April 3rd, 2011, we departed in our Motorhome for the "BIG 2011 PLAN" We've now completed an 18,000 mile, 6 month drive from home in Florida to Northern California, North on the Pacific west coast to Seattle. From there to Alaska - with returning stops in Spokane, Washington - Oregon, Yellowstone, and other sites - then to Fort Wayne, Indiana to visit family, then back South to Florida and home. We have now traded in our motor home and purchased a new 5th wheel travel trailer and truck to continue travelling as long as life will allow. We will keep you informed as much as practical on our new site: www.Rainwatertravel.blogspot.com

"THE BIG 2011 PLAN"

Our route for the 2011 "Big Trip" has been firmed up and cast in stone (subject to change and adjustments)
Our plan is to depart home April 3 and go west 3,303 miles to Eureka, California.  Our route will take us on a leisurely jog through the USA to the Grand Canyon, Arizona - Death Valley, California - Reno, Nevada - and across California to Eureka on the West coast. Planned stops will include the Grand Canyon, Reno, Death valley, and some other, yet to be decided side trips.  We'll report more as we go and hope you enjoy.

GETTING READY:
We used the RV on a "dry run" at the end of September for a 3 week trip to Indiana.  We enjoyed our outing, especially with the grandkids in Indiana whom we don't see often enough.  Everything has gone pretty well with the RV; Just a couple minor adjustments that have since been corrected without a lot of trouble.    As far as I can tell, the equipment is 100% Ready to go.  New tires - balanced - all new fluids - new batteries - some new switches and solenoids - newly serviced/coated rubber roof - wax job.............  I have periodically taken the RV out for a drive to keep all the mechanical components running and lubricated, and to keep the batteries charged.  The next step is to move it into the driveway to start loading for our six month journey.  I'll do that the last week of March to get ready for an April 3rd departure.

We're itching to get started, sota like the night before Christmas excitement waiting for Santa to arrive.  Gas prices are going up and we're not getting any younger so nothing will hold us back. Stay tuned.......
