Florida, United States
June and I retired in June, 2004 and travelled for a year on our boat from Lake Michigan to Florida, then North on the East Coast through Canada, back to Southern Lake Michigan. It was the most amazing trip we have ever taken and one that will be tough to beat. We settled in Florida in the fall of 2005. On April 3rd, 2011, we departed in our Motorhome for the "BIG 2011 PLAN" We've now completed an 18,000 mile, 6 month drive from home in Florida to Northern California, North on the Pacific west coast to Seattle. From there to Alaska - with returning stops in Spokane, Washington - Oregon, Yellowstone, and other sites - then to Fort Wayne, Indiana to visit family, then back South to Florida and home. We have now traded in our motor home and purchased a new 5th wheel travel trailer and truck to continue travelling as long as life will allow. We will keep you informed as much as practical on our new site: www.Rainwatertravel.blogspot.com

More Travel Stuff - updated periodically

On our way to Dease Lake on June 2nd, we pulled into a turnout to get a closer look at an un-usual RV.  See the pic below to see what I mean.  As we discovered, this was a 50's vintage truck with an Airstream travel trailer of 60's vintage mounted on it.  Two men from Wasila, Alaska are travelling to Vancouver in this "thing" while a film crew from Finland makes a documentary about the venture.  During our brief stop, while they were trying to get the engine started on their truck, is when we got our information from a film crew member.  After unsuccessfully trying to push start the truck and after several minutes of engine tweaking, they got it started.  One of our encounters on the road....

No luck with the push start.

While waiting at the Forrest Fire Barracade north of Dease Lake for two hours, we met other arriving travellers from Germany, France, & Switzerland.  The couple from Switzerland were here travelling and when asked why they were here instead of enjoying their home with all the mountains, their reply - straining to speak in English - explained that in Switzerland they didn't have nearly the open space between villages that are here in Canada. In other words, it was too crowded there while here they were so impressed with the wide open spaces.  Here we are with their flag he gave us.
